Job summary

Emerald AI is seeking a Distributed Systems / Backend Engineer to join our core backend platform powering AI-powered energy intelligence. You will drive architectural decisions, build scalable services, and influence the stack as one of the first engineering hires.

You will own components across ingestion, compute, storage and orchestration, focusing on reliability, performance and real-time data flows. Senior hires will help set direction, mentor teammates, and partner with product to ship

Qualifications

Experience with distributed systems or data-intensive applications.
Backend/infrastructure systems with focus on reliability and scalability.
Interest in grid systems, energy orchestration, and applying AI to real-world infrastructure.
Experience with real-time or near real-time systems.
Ability to work in ambiguous environments and turn open-ended problems into production systems.

Responsibilities

Designing and scaling systems that interact with real-world energy infrastructure.
Building high-performance services and APIs that power core product workflows.
Tackling reliability, data modeling, and system design challenges.
Shipping end-to-end features—from idea to production.
Improving system observability, performance, and fault tolerance.
Partnering closely with product to turn ambiguous problems into shipped solutions.
