Job summary

LinkedIn is seeking a Distinguished Engineer to shape the future of its Core Infrastructure platform. The role focuses on block, blob, and file storage, with contributions to streaming and fleet management, in a large-scale on-premises environment.

You will partner with senior leaders to define long-term technical strategy, lead cross-functional initiatives, and mentor engineers across the organization. The position is based in Mountain View, CA or Bellevue, WA with hybrid work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering.
• Experience leading technical projects with multiple stakeholders.
• PhD or equivalent research experience preferred.
• 15+ years building infrastructure at scale, with at least 5 years in a technical leadership position.
• Experience building large-scale infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Experience with messaging and streaming systems (e.g., Kafka).
• Proven ability to operate across infrastructure domains (fleet management, control planes, private cloud) and evolve high-scale on-premise or hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term technical strategy across LinkedIn’s core infrastructure, including storage and messaging systems.
• Lead cross-team initiatives spanning distributed systems, storage platforms, and event-driven architectures.
• Head cross-team discussions and drive alignment on technology strategy.
• Contribute to initiatives through design and implementation with engineers on the team.
• Improve craftsmanship by developing best practices and defining architecture strategies.
• Define the bar for quality and efficiency while balancing business and operational costs.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical direction across large organizations.
• Drive alignment on multi-domain infrastructure architecture balancing scalability, reliability, and cost.
