The Distillery Operations Supervisor will work in conjunction with Director Distillery Operations, Plant Engineer & Maintenance Manager, while directly supervising and coordinating the activities of union personnel and Distillery Operations. This position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Engineering. This position conducts job duties in a manner that demonstrates a strong food safety culture which ensures the safety and quality of our products. The typical schedule is 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM M-F. Must be available for off shift calls.
Summary/ Objective
The Distillery Supervisor, Distillery Operations ensures daily efficient distillery operations aligned with Four Roses strategic goals through supervision, development and accountability of distillery union team members across 3 shifts, assists with production planning and equipment evaluation, cost reductions and budgetary compliance, safety and environmental compliance and continuous improvement methods resulting in a premium quality product.
Essential Functions Time Allocations
Major Responsibilities 80%
Distillery Operations Management
- Daily Supervision of Distillery Operations & By Product Operations across 3 shifts.
- Promote cost-effective operations through an atmosphere focused on Safety, Quality, Cost and Environmental impact
- Audit and develop improvements to Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, ensuring SOPs and Wis are up to date and accessible for all team members.
- Manage and maintain inventory levels of grains distillery by products and finished distillate.
- Maintain and promote transparent communication throughout all three rotating shifts, supervise and develop distillery staff
- Supervise overall Team of 18 Union production team members. 9 distillery team members, 4 fermenter room team members, 5 dry house team members.
- Monitor and report daily operations progress to Distillery Operations Team in a standardized reporting form.
- Track KPI’s in distillery operations and record, interpret and react to trends, data for improvement and history by communicating with Operations Team to gain consensus.
- Monitor all data to observe / predict trends and react according for efficient, quality driven results
- Coordinate timely and efficient shipments of distillate to CC.
- Coordinate timely and efficient shipments of DDG.
- Support Distillery automation issues and help troubleshoot and resolve issues with the help of Distillery Maintenance and Plant Engineer.
- Implement & Support 5s systems.
- Implement & Support SQF Food Safety
- Coordinate and Communicate Production Trials to operations team and report trials data to operations team.
Quality and Production
- Participate in distillate and aged product inventory with Quality
- Daily Quality Inspection of distillate, raw materials and WIP’s
- Timely sanitation to coordinate with production and quality standards
- Communicate quality objectives with operators
- Implement and support best practices
- Continuous improvement of sanitation and quality initiatives
Maintenance
- Coordinate directly with the Maintenance Supervisor to assist with completion of all maintenance activities.
- Communicate with Director, Plant Engineer & Operations Manager to ensure safe and seamless operations
- Assists Maintenance Manager in compiling and managing detailed summer shutdown list
- Provide backup support to Maintenance Supervisor.
Human Resources
- Supervise manpower as required to efficiently execute operating schedule for distillery.
- Coach, monitor and evaluate performance of all direct reports and apply disciplinary procedures and drive accountability as necessary in partnership with Distillery Director, Senior Manager, Engineering and Operations Manager.
- Manage new hire onboarding and training, ensure they have been trained and signed off on all aspects of their role, including team members who’ve accepted new job bids.
- Mentor and communicate best practices and quality/safety objectives to distillery operators throughout the process
- Review and approve timecards on a weekly basis in ADP.
- Review and approve all shift trades and time off request in ADP.
- Administration of the Union Handbook & Contract in a consistent and fair manner
- Acts as 1st step lead for the grievance process, working to resolve grievances at this level.
Financial & Budget
- Works in conjunction with Distillery Director on capital and operational budgets.
- Continuously seeks improvements or ways to decrease costs in order to deliver the most efficient distillery operation.

Environmental and Regulatory Compliance
- Assist in documenting compliance with environmental regulations and issues pertaining to: Chemical use, Emissions, pH levels – with city sewer, Water Outfalls, Fire Pump and fire system, Landfarming and various other regulatory reports, Others where applicable
- Urgently react to environmental release events or issues to ensure compliance with federal and state permits
- Monitor data from on-site wastewater treatment facility and escalate as needed
- Support the Company’s overall environmental initiatives.
- Assist with maintaining records for Wastewater, Air Quality, Sewer, Landfarm permit compliance
- Works to encourage a culture of safety, with continuous improved safe work practices
- Work to prevent safety hazards, respond quickly to any safety issues, ensure proper maintenance of plant equipment for continued safe operation
- Works with the Safety, Health and Security Manager to maintain an emergency response plan for facility and ensure compliance with OSHA standards
- Implement emergency response plan for facility and ensure compliance with OSHA standards
- Monitor and inspect entire facility for safety compliance
- Investigate accidents or injuries and prepare reports of findings for HR.
- Identify, prioritize and provide resources to assist meeting plant goals and objectives.
Risk Management and Compliance
- Maintain and keep current all OSHA programs and reports
- Monitor and inspect distillery for safety compliance, communicate with
- Maintenance Team to promote safety and continuous operations
- Keep current on TTB rules and regulations
- Keep current on EPA (and its various agencies) rules and regulations
Minor Responsibilities 20%
- Gives tours as directed of distillery to VIP guests

Qualifications
- Proficient computer literacy with ability to utilize the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook; keyboard/typing skills a must, advanced Excel preferred.

Required Education and Experience
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting
- 3-5 years’ experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Experience with quality systems, safety, HACCP, and GMP’s
- Must have availability for outside normal schedule calls/report to facility
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience in spirits industry, food or beverage production facility
- Solid understanding of fermentation and distillation
- Experience in a union environment.

Supervisory Responsibility
The Distillery Supervisor, Distillery Operations supervises distillery, fermenter room & dryer house union team members.
This job operates 80% in the plant manufacturing environment and 20% in an office environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration as could be expected in any OSHA compliant plant operation. The team member is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in the plant. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The duties shall be performed in an OSHA compliant manner.
Travel
Travel will be required between Kentucky locations. Travel could be required to other sites, cities, or countries to learn more about specific or general operations, equipment, or methods.
