Job summary

PPL Electric Utilities is seeking a Dispatcher-Shift to work with System Operators and supervisors for dispatching crews in response to service problems and emergencies. This is a non-remote position reporting to a Command Center in Allentown, PA with a rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Successful candidates must meet residency requirements and join IBEW Local 1600. This role requires coordination with utilities personnel and safety-focused communication during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of electrical distribution system.
• Experience in dispatching work via electronic systems is preferred.
• Must be able to obtain NERC/CIP PSP clearance and pass CRITICALL test.

Responsibilities

• Direct and dispatch work crews to locations based on customer requests or needs.
• Coordinate activities with Distribution and Transmission system operators.
• Inform operators with critical information to ensure safe responses.
• Interact with PPL and contractor crews professionally.
• Communicate with 911 centers to relay information for emergencies.
• Manage calls during emergencies and service interruptions.
• Maintain courteous customer relations and document inquiries.

Overview

Dispatcher-Shift will work in conjunction with System Operators and appropriate supervisors in contacting, directing, and dispatching personnel to respond to service problems and emergencies. This is NOT A REMOTE POSITION. Successful candidates must report to PPL's Command Center located in Allentown, PA for every shift. The schedule for this position is a rotating shift and the successful candidates must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays. There is a 30 mile residency requirement for this role (address to be provided if selected for consideration). This is a union position and successful candidates will be members of IBEW Local 1600.

Responsibilities

• Direct and dispatch work crews to appropriate locations according to customer requests, specifications, or needs.
• Coordinates activities with Distribution and Transmission system operators to ensure the safe and effective use of resources.
• Informs Distribution and Transmission system operators of critical information to ensure the most effective and safe response to customers.
• Interact with PPL and contractor crews performing work and restoration on the PPL system in a professional manner.
• Interact with the 911 centers in a professional manner and ensure all required information is transmitted between the parties to allow PPL and emergency personnel to respond to emergencies in the most efficient and safest way possible.
• Receives and handles calls during emergency conditions and service interruptions.
• Performs in a courteous and professional manner while satisfying customer inquiries and complaints, both verbal and written.
• Promotes high standards of customer and public relations.
• Calls out, directs and dispatches personnel, secures assistance or requests help from other departments as necessary.
• Monitor personnel and/or equipment locations and utilization in order to ensure the most effective use of resources.
• Perform administrative functions.
• Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.
• Responds to call-outs as required by company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Entry Requirements

• Basic understanding of electrical distribution system.
• Ability to obtain NERC/CIP PSP clearance.
• Successful completion of CRITICALL test.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in dispatching work via electronic systems.
