Town of Acton seeks a Dispatcher to answer and process emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch police, fire, EMS and other units, and provide pre-arrival medical instructions. Answer and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Dispatch police, fire, EMS, and other emergency and non-emergency units and personnel as needed. Provide pre-arrival instruction for emergency medical dispatch. Monitor and operate radios, computers, telephones, alarms, cameras, and other specialized equipment as necessary following established policies and procedures. Enter, update, and retrieve information from local, state, and national computerized systems. Conduct inquires, validations and modifications of records as required. Work effectively and efficiently under stressful situations. Assist citizens at the public window, perform prisoner watch duties, and perform other related duties.
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of work experience. Proficient computer skills required to process records and information. Ability to multi-task under high-pressure situations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Hours will vary; applicant must be available 24/7 for night, weekend and holiday hours. Position requires a medical examination, including hearing and drug tests, a psychological evaluation, and the ability to pass a background check. Successful candidate must complete the Dispatch Training Programs.
Experience in accurately assessing and processing emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance. Experience in a fast-paced work environment requiring prioritizing and organizing work. Experience in maintaining accurate records. The ability to take direction and work independently. Possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Previous dispatch experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate.
Starting salary: $27.25 - $32.40/hr., plus evening and overnight shift differential of $2.00/hr.
