Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. seeks a full-time Dispatcher to coordinate routine and emergency information within the Police Department.

You will monitor phones and radios, dispatch response units, and maintain logs while ensuring timely communications at the TCCD District Offices. Reporting to the Lead Dispatcher, you will perform administrative tasks, attend trainings, and support college mission and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Obtain Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within one year of employment.
  • Obtain TCIC/TLETS Full Access Certification within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor telephones and radios in the Dispatch Center; answer calls and gather information to transmit or relay.
  • Dispatch police and other response vehicles for emergencies; broadcast details and coordinate with personnel.
  • Maintain log of radio and telephone communications and track personnel and equipment.
  • Record and track information such as traffic control issues affecting emergencies.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as creating and maintaining reports and correspondence.
  • Support the college in external community organizations; attend workplace duties and training sessions.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Lead Dispatcher, the Dispatcher is responsible forperforming a variety of routine clerical, administrative, andtechnical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergencyinformation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Monitors telephones and radios in the Dispatch Center, answersall incoming calls and ascertains the nature of calls whilegathering all necessary information to transmit or relay
  • Dispatches police and other response vehicles for emergencyresponses while broadcasting the nature, location, and time ofincidents; contacts all required personnel in the event of anemergency as well as ensures the presence of reserve units bycontacting personnel designated for call-back and maintainson-going contact with the responding personnel, keeping theminformed of all incoming pertinent information
  • Maintains log of radio and telephone communications, location ofpersonnel and equipment
  • Records and tracks various information, such as traffic controlissues that could impact emergency personnel
  • Performs administrative tasks such as creating and maintainingreports, records, and business correspondence

  • Participates on behalf of the College in external communityorganizations and associations as assigned to support the essentialperformance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, andfollows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of theworksite
  • Completes all required training and professional developmentsessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of theCollege

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Obtain Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency License from the TexasCommission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within one year ofemployment
  • Obtain Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC)/Texas LawEnforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) Full AccessCertification within one year of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year's working experience related to the EssentialPerformance Requirements
  • Completed TDD/TTY for Telecommunicators course from TCOLE
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonalrelationships, including strong listening, verbal, and writtencommunication
  • Skilled in the operation of all equipment utilized by the PoliceDepartment and necessary to perform assigned tasks
  • Skilled in using computer applications and enterprise systems,including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicateproblems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work arevaried and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to assess situations and provide sound recommendationsbased on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulationswhile exhibiting a strong attention to detail andorganization
  • Ability to maintain a high level of diplomacy and tact, ensuringconfidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to learn District geography, including all campuses,routes, buildings, and facilities as well as adjacent city roadsand highways, buildings, landmarks, waterways, and boundaries
