Job summary

Francis Howell School District is seeking a Dispatcher to develop and maintain safe, efficient bus routes for school attendance in line with state, federal, and district guidelines.

You will coordinate daily transportation operations with drivers and staff, ensure staffing, scheduling, and route information accuracy, and support transportation services across campuses.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assign standby drivers/monitors to routes to meet staffing needs.
• Assist drivers with route questions and procedures.
• Assist with other Transportation duties, including driving routes and bus monitoring.
• Communicate with administrators, staff, parents, and community to provide information.
• Generate and schedule bus routes following guidelines and building tiers.
• Monitor time-clock records, field trips, and route times for dispatch accuracy.
• Prepare documentation for staff and administrators.
• Maintain records and follow safety practices, policies, and laws.
• Collaborate with Transportation staff to resolve routing and scheduling issues.
• Perform other duties to support Transportation Department operations.

Job Summary

The Dispatcher is responsible for developing and maintaining safe, efficient bus routes for school attendance in accordance with State, Federal, and District guidelines. This position works closely with drivers, monitors, and transportation staff to coordinate daily transportation operations, maintain accurate route information, and ensure staffing and scheduling needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

• Assign standby drivers and/or monitors to routes as needed to ensure all transportation staffing requirements are met.
• Assist drivers with questions regarding specific routes, including clock-in/clock-out times, daily tools, keys, clipboards, eye contact, dress code, and other transportation procedures.
• Assist with other Transportation Department responsibilities as needed, including driving routes and serving as a bus monitor.
• Communicate verbally and in writing with administrators, staff, parents, community members, and other parties to address concerns and provide information.
• Generate and schedule bus routes in accordance with State-recommended guidelines and District building tiers.
• Monitor transportation data, including time-clock records, field-trip planning, and route departure and arrival times, to verify daily dispatch logs and ensure accurate clock-in and clock-out procedures.
• Prepare and maintain documentation and materials, including driver and monitor assignments, to provide written support and communicate information to staff and school administrators.
• Maintain accurate records and follow applicable safety practices, policies, regulations, and laws.
• Work collaboratively with Transportation staff to identify and resolve routing, scheduling, and staffing concerns.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the efficient and effective operation of the Transportation Department.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures, applicable codes, policies, regulations, and laws.
• Knowledge of county streets, locations, and transportation routes.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including fractions, percentages, and ratios.
• Ability to read technical information and prepare a variety of documents and records.
• Strong organizational, scheduling, and recordkeeping skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals.
