Job summary

First Student in Brooklyn is seeking a Dispatcher to coordinate bus routes, monitor on-time performance, and provide frontline communication for drivers and monitors.

You will maintain dispatch logs, assign routes, coordinate with maintenance, answer inquiries, and support a safety-first culture in a fast-paced environment. A high school diploma and 2+ years in dispatch or related work are required; strong communication and multitasking are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (commercial vehicle license preferred).
  • 2+ years of relevant experience (dispatch, terminal operations, or driving).
  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and radio dispatch systems.
  • Ability to multitask and work under time constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch buses, monitor route performance, and communicate real-time updates to drivers.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch logs, tracking attendance, vehicle status, and route adjustments.
  • Support a "Safety First" culture - broadcast daily messages and collaborate with safety personnel.
  • Assign drivers and monitors to routes and assist with the route bid process.
  • Coordinate with the shop team on preventive maintenance, breakdowns, and repairs.
  • Manage phone inquiries and provide timely follow-up to customer and driver requests.
  • Perform additional administrative or operational duties as assigned.
