An established government entity is seeking motivated high school juniors, seniors, or college students for a part-time role in Parks and Recreation. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while interacting with the community. Employees will assist with customer service, cash transactions, and various clerical tasks under close supervision. Ideal candidates will be available to work 20 hours a week, typically four hours a day, and will have the chance to contribute to the maintenance and operations of County Park facilities. This is a training level class involving high school juniors and seniors working on completion of a diploma, college or university students working on completion of a degree, or students enrolled in a technical business institute, vocational school or adult/community education program working on completion of a diploma or certificate who are available to work on a part-time basis. Employees in this class are placed in various County departments and perform beginning level unskilled or semi-skilled duties, typically clerical in nature, but may vary depending on the department assigned. Students are budgeted to work 20 hours a week except in special circumstances when school is not in session. This applies to college, as well as high school students. Students usually work four (4) hours per day.
Under close supervision, summer employees of this beginning level classification have direct interaction with customers at the point of sale, greet and act as hosts to visitors, take reservations, coordinate park entry, and complete cash transactions. The employees answer questions, give directions, explain facilities, and assist higher level employees involved in the general maintenance and operations of the County Park facilities. Depending on the work assignment, Parks & Recreation Attendants may assist in the operation of a contact station at a campground, day use or dog park facility, food concessions, nature center, pro shop of a County golf course or waterpark operation or support the mobile recreation unit with equipment set up, operation, and clean up at special events.
Under immediate supervision, employees of this classification perform routine, unskilled manual and/or clerical duties, assisting higher level employees involved in the general maintenance and operations of the County Park facilities. Depending on the work assignment, may assist in the operation of a control station, concessions, beverage cart and/or in the operation of a pro shop located on a County golf facility. When assigned to a pro shop, responsible for waiting on customers, the sale, inventory, and notification for purchases of articles, and helping to maintain the pro shop in a neat and orderly manner.
