Job summary

Center for Elders’ Independence (CEI) in Oakland is seeking a Dispatcher Scheduler to optimize routes for participant pickups and drop-offs. You’ll work with the dispatch, transportation coordination, and supervisory teams to ensure accurate and timely changes that minimize errors.

The role requires 1–2 years in transportation routing/scheduling and strong customer service as well as excellent interpersonal and computer skills. This is an on-site position with potential weekend/holiday hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 1-2 years’ experience in transportation industry as a router/scheduler is required.
• Customer service experience is required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
• Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and databases are important.
• Phone experience in a call center environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan the schedule of routes for each driver for timely pickup and drop off of participants.
• Determine the number of participant rides daily and efficient use of vehicles/drivers.
• Prepare specific notes with special requests for the transportation management system.
• Maximize driver and vehicle efficiency by assigning unscheduled return trips.
• Update route templates for upcoming service days.
• Schedule and route outside medical appointments to maximize efficiency and reduce travel/wait times.
• Proactively troubleshoot pickup/drop-off issues and find timely solutions.
• Generate reports on route optimization, performance metrics and cost analysis.
