Job summary

The Bowery Mission is seeking a dedicated kitchen support staff member to help provide a hospitable environment for guests and clients in our New York facility. You will dishwash, sanitize utensils, and assist with basic prep tasks while coordinating with kitchen staff and volunteers to keep spaces clean and safe.

Requirements include at least one year in a commercial kitchen, ability to lift 50 lbs, and willingness to work varied hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• At least one year’s relevant experience in a commercial kitchen setting
• Embrace's the organization’s Statement of Faith.
• Able to bend, lift, and squat at least 50 lbs. and able to stand for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Provide dishwashing on assigned site(s). Bus assigned areas, removing food scraps, dishes, and trash. Fill and unload dishwashers. Operate dishwashing tools. Put away clean dishes and utensils.
• Help troubleshoot unexpected challenges with equipment and processes. Keep area safe and clean. Perform routine cleaning list and deep cleaning assignments.
• Carry out prep cook tasks as assigned. Includes duties such as making sandwiches, set-up breakfast/lunch bags, prep vegetables and other ingredients.
• Follow procedures and regulations regarding food safety and cleanliness standards.
• Work with teammates to sort donations and maintain pantry. Involves unloading food, picking and discarding unusual items, rotating food in storage, etc. Instruct volunteers as needed.

Help create and maintain a hospitable environment for guests and clients. Clean and sanitize utensils, dishes, pots, etc. with both machine and manual methods. Keep assigned areas clean and safe. Work alongside kitchen staff and volunteers to ensure all spaces are properly maintained. May occasionally be asked to help with additional cleaning tasks. Perform prep cook tasks as needed and assigned. Help sort donations and maintain pantry.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Requires availability for days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holiday work hours as assigned.

Requirements:

Preferred:

• High school diploma, or equivalent.
• Food handler’s license
• Knowledge of population served.

Salary: $20.19 per hour
