Job summary

The Bowery Mission in New York seeks a facilities attendant to maintain buildings and grounds, review spaces, and keep essential systems running. You will carry out routine checks, respond to work orders, and support events with setup and other tasks.

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 9:00am-5:30pm. Requires a high school diploma and 2+ years of facilities experience; driver’s license preferred. Embrace safety practices and the organization’s faith-based mission.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years Facilities experience.
  • Preventative maintenance practices or safety training/certificates preferred.
  • Understanding of shelter operations or shelter environment.
  • Driver’s license preferred.
  • F80 (fire safety, guard) or OSHA certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing physical review of assigned areas (roofs, sidewalks, and spaces).
  • Perform maintenance tasks to keep essential systems and equipment operational.
  • Complete checklists and respond to work orders.
  • Assist facility staff and other teams with event setup and support during events.
  • Communicate maintenance and supply needs across areas.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds and performing bending/stooping as required.

Job description

The Bowery Mission is a Christian, faith-based organization committed since the 1870s to serving people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. The Bowery Mission meets essentialneeds and creates transformative communitieswith men, women, children, and familiesin New York so that we can togetherovercome homelessness and poverty and flourish.

Key role in creating a hospitable environment for guests and residents, with an emphasis on maintaining the buildings and grounds. Perform a variety of duties to keep equipment, systems, and spaces ready to use. Carry out physical review of assigned areas. Complete checklists, respond to work orders, help meet facility needs across teams.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide ongoing physical review of assigned areas (including roof and sidewalks).
  • Perform tasks to maintain essential systems, such as preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment, completing assigned checklists, minor plumbing repairs, and responding to work orders.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace. Responsible for provided tools, materials, etc., and keeping them available for use.
  • Assist Facility staff and other teams to provide excellent service. Includes a variety of tasks, such as physically assisting with event/space set-up and helping during events.
  • Note and communicate maintenance and supply needs throughout assigned areas.
  • Duties include reaching, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Schedule

Tuesday-Saturday: 9:00am-5:30pm

Requires availability for days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holiday work hours as assigned.

Requirements
  • Embrace's the organization’s Statement of Faith.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years Facilities experience.
Preferred
  • Preventative maintenance practices. Safety training/certificate.
  • Understanding of shelter operations.
  • Driver’s license preferred.
  • F80 (fire safety, guard certificate); NCI Certification; OSHA Certification.
Salary

$21.63
