Responsibilities

• Initiate and complete investigations on reportable HIV/STI infections.
• Ensure testing and treatment for HIV/STI infections.
• Explain medical aspects of transmission and risk reduction.
• Notify partners of exposure and need for testing/treatment.
• Collect HIV/STI rapid specimens and report results.
• Provide health education per CDC guidelines to LPHA staff and partners.
• Assist other members of the disease investigation team as needed.
• Support QA and improvement projects with supervisor and coordinator.

The Bureau of HIV, STI, and Hepatitis provides HIV, sexually transmitted infection (STI), and Viral Hepatitis education targeted to the general public, those at risk for infection, and clinical providers, access to HIV, STI, and Viral Hepatitis prevention and testing services and increased access to HIV, STI, and Viral Hepatitis care and treatment.

We are seeking an individual with a high level of initiative who enjoys a challenging, fast-paced work environment where every day is different. This position is essential to ensuring the reduction of disease transmission in the northwest counties of Missouri. A person in this position will work with diverse populations. In addition, this position will frequently communicate with medical providers.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

• Initiate and complete investigations on reportable HIV/STI infections, including interviewing those infected or at risk of infection
• Ensure appropriate testing and treatment of those with HIV/STI infections
• Explain the medical aspects of disease transmission and risk reduction activities
• Notify sex and needle-sharing partners of their exposure and need for testing and/or treatment
• Conduct HIV/STI rapid specimen collection and provide both positive and negative results
• Provide support, guidance, and health education regarding HIV/STI best practices according to CDC guidelines to LPHA staff, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders
• Assist other members of the disease investigation team, as needed
• Assist the regional supervisor and program coordinator with quality assurance and improvement projects, as requested

Minimum Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Substitutions may be permitted
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a working knowledge of public health functions and essential services
• This position requires professionalism, excellent attention to detail, initiative, flexibility, discretion, and the strict maintenance of confidentiality
• The candidate should be comfortable with having sexually explicit discussions with the individuals served through the partner services program and be able to relay medical information about HIV/STI transmission to staff, the general public, and medical providers
