Job summary

Newspring-Church in Spartanburg is seeking a full-time Discipleship Ministry Leader to empower volunteers and shepherd groups, classes, and partnerships. Responsibilities

• Execute discipleship missions and standards across campus.

Job description

Role Description:

This role helps build and strengthen the Discipleship Ministry by helping people move toward an everyday relationship with Jesus. Working alongside the Discipleship Director, this leader equips and empowers volunteers, oversees assigned areas of Groups, Classes, or Ministry Partnerships, and creates environments where people grow through Scripture, prayer, and discipleship community. With a shepherd’s heart, strong follow-through, and a passion for developing leaders, they help make discipleship a vibrant and accessible part of everyday life at their campus.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Execute and uphold the Discipleship Missions, Pillars, and Standards (MPS) and build the discipleship ministry using the vision, resources, and training of NewSpring Church.
• Oversee the Discipleship adult opportunities on campus, as assigned by the Discipleship Director:
  • Groups — Discipleship & Study Groups
  • Classes — Discipleship & Institute Classes
  • Ministry Partnerships — Baptism, Big Baptism, Membership & Child Dedication
• Ensure all groups, classes, and ministry partnerships lead to an everyday relationship with Jesus through the everyday practices of Scripture, prayer, and discipleship community.
• Recruit, train, and empower inimitable leaders who consistently live out the Discipleship mission and fulfill their Membership Covenant.
• Collaborate with other ministry teams (Guest Services, Fuse, KidSpring, Worship Arts, etc.) to provide holistic discipleship for people of all ages.
• Use Rock and other tools to track rosters, attendance, baptisms, engagement, leaders, and regularly evaluate key discipleship metrics in partnership with the Campus Pastor and Support Staff.
• Uphold a strong relationship with Support Discipleship and counterparts across the state.
• Adhere to and encompass the qualities and characteristics required of NewSpring Church staff members, as defined by the Policies and Procedures Handbook.

Additional Duties/Responsibilities:

• Lead and strengthen Women’s Discipleship at the Spartanburg Campus, creating healthy environments for women to grow in Scripture, prayer, and discipleship community while developing and empowering leaders to carry the ministry.
• Own the Baptism and Membership pathways, ensuring people are personally shepherded from initial interest through classes, conversations, preparation, next steps, and follow-up while equipping volunteer leaders to create excellent ministry experiences.
• Coordinate Discipleship Semester Launches alongside the Discipleship Director and Lead Team, ensuring Groups, Classes, leaders, systems, communication, resources, and campus promotion are prepared and executed well.
• Recruit, onboard, develop, and care for Discipleship leaders and volunteers, intentionally identifying potential leaders and empowering Area Leaders and key volunteers to take increasing ownership of ministry.
• Own connection and follow-through systems across assigned ministries, ensuring people are responded to promptly, accurately tracked, personally cared for, and connected to an appropriate next step so people don't fall through the cracks.
• Maintain and evaluate healthy ministry systems, including Connection Boards, rosters, attendance, volunteer onboarding, scheduling, and key ministry indicators to identify areas needing additional care, leadership, or improvement.
• Provide appropriate pastoral care and next-step guidance to individuals, couples, and leaders, recognizing when needs should be elevated to the Discipleship Director, Campus Pastor, or another appropriate pastoral resource.
• Partner with the Discipleship Director, Lead Team, and Spartanburg Campus team to continually strengthen Discipleship, develop leaders, create excellent ministry environments, and build a ministry increasingly carried by equipped volunteers.
• Additional projects and/or assignments as needed

Role Requirements:

• This is a full-time, 40 hr/wk role.
• This role is eligible to receive a housing allowance.
• A college degree is not required. Relevant ministry, leadership, volunteer development, pastoral care, or comparable experience may be considered in place of formal education.
• The standard weekly schedule is listed below, but hours may occasionally shift based on Baptisms, Membership, semester launches, special events, pastoral needs, and other campus ministry opportunities.
  • Sunday: 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM (6 hours)
  • Monday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (8 hours)
  • Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (8 hours)
  • Wednesday: 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM (9 hours)
  • Thursday: 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM (9 hours)
• Ability to manage multiple ministry areas, people, deadlines, events, systems, and details while maintaining strong situational awareness and organization.
• Communicate warmly, clearly, and confidently with people across different ages, backgrounds, personalities, and stages of faith.
• Demonstrate spiritual and emotional maturity to handle confidential information, receive feedback, navigate difficult conversations, exercise good judgment, and recognize when pastoral needs should involve another leader.
