Job summary

Sagemont Church is seeking a seasoned Discipleship Leader to shape and oversee the adult discipleship pathway, coordinating across Connect Groups, Grow Groups, studies, and ministries. You will partner with Worship, Next Gen, and other teams to ensure holistic ministry alignment and growth.

You will recruit and coach staff and lay leaders, building a leadership pipeline for ongoing development and multiplication, while stewarding budgets and ministry health metrics.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of vocational ministry focused on adult discipleship.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships and build consensus around a discipleship vision.
  • Proven track record in building teams, developing leaders, and implementing scalable systems.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate an adult discipleship pathway across Connect Groups, Grow Groups, studies, and ministry areas.
  • Align adult discipleship with the whole-church mission by partnering with Worship, Next Gen, and other ministries.

Job description

Essential Functions
  1. Discipleship Pathway. Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive adult discipleship strategy that creates clear next steps for spiritual growth through Connect Groups, Grow Groups, Studies, Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, and 55+ Ministry.
  2. Whole-Church Alignment. Ensure adult discipleship ministries function as one integrated pathway rather than separate programs, and actively partner with Worship, Next Gen, Iglesia Sagemont, Communications, and other church ministries so the Discipleship strategy strengthens the whole church.
  3. Leader Development. Recruit, coach, and multiply Discipleship staff, Connect Group leaders, and key lay leaders through the Sagemont Leadership Pipeline for future ministry leaders and create intentional next steps for leadership development.
  4. Ministry Systems. Build systems for leader recruitment, onboarding, training, care, communication, and multiplication so Discipleship ministries can grow with health, consistency, and excellence.
  5. Connect Group Strategy. Provide strategic leadership and oversight for Sunday morning Adult Connect Groups, strengthening group health, leader development, guest assimilation, multiplication, and the connection between worship attendance and biblical community.
  6. Ministry Health Metrics. Establish and regularly report meaningful health indicators for Discipleship Ministry — participation, guest connection, salvations, baptisms, leader development and multiplication, group health, and engagement in next steps.
  7. Calendar & Budget Stewardship. Oversee the annual Discipleship Ministry calendar in alignment with the overall church calendar, and develop and steward the annual Discipleship Ministry budget with wise, accountable use of church resources.
  8. Pastoral Care. Provide pastoral care, counseling, and crisis support to adults, ministry leaders, and staff as appropriate.
  9. Major Ministry Initiatives. Lead and help administer major Discipleship events, studies, and initiatives, ensuring each supports Sagemont’s overall discipleship pathway and produces clear next steps for participants.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned, including evening and weekend responsibilities.

  6. Coaching & Mentoring. Invests personally in developing staff and lay leaders toward spiritual maturity, ministry effectiveness, and increased leadership responsibility.
  7. Conflict Resolution.Leads courageously through disagreement and tension.
Qualifications
  1. Preferred 10+ years of vocational ministry experience investing in the spiritual maturity of adults and developing ministry leaders.
  2. Demonstrated ability to cultivate key relationships and build consensus around a clear, compelling discipleship vision.
  3. Proven track record in building teams, developing and multiplying leaders, and building systems that can execute mission-critical objectives.
  4. Experience managing ministry budgets with wisdom and accountability.
  5. Personally evangelistic, with the ability to equip and empower others to share the gospel.
  6. Committed to clear, conservative, biblically faithful teaching and discipleship, consistent with Sagemont's doctrinal statement.
