Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a Disaster Engineering Specialist to perform site inspections, develop scopes of work, and review technical reports for FEMA Public Assistance programs. You will evaluate hazard mitigation options, coordinate with applicants, and produce cost estimates.

The role requires U.S. citizenship, ability to obtain a FEMA badge, and in-field travel up to 100%. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a FEMA Badge including background investigation.
• Working knowledge of design applications and technical knowledge.
• Knowledge of construction materials and related technologies.
• Strong organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
• Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
• Ability to adapt to change quickly and remain flexible.

Responsibilities

• Conducts site inspections to validate and record infrastructure damage, including photos, sketches, and detailed descriptions; develops scopes of work and cost estimates.
• Reviews and analyzes engineering reports, designs, and as-built plans.
• Assesses claim eligibility and develops hazard mitigation proposals and benefit-cost analyses; coordinates with applicants and communicates determinations.
• Provides analyses, updates, and participates in status meetings with FEMA; identifies need for technical specialists.
• May coordinate basic to moderately complex site inspections to assist in FEMA Public Assistance grant delivery.
• Other duties as assigned.
