Job summary

CDM Smith in the United States seeks a Disaster Engineering Specialist to perform site inspections, document infrastructure damage, develop scopes and cost estimates, and review design and as-built plans.

You will coordinate with applicants, assist in FEMA Public Assistance processes, conduct hazard analyses, and support senior staff in claims eligibility decisions; domestic travel is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 5 years of in‑field experience or 2 years of in‑field with professional registration.
• Domestic travel is required.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a FEMA Badge.
• Knowledge of design applications and construction materials.

Responsibilities

• Conducts site inspections to validate and record infrastructure damage, including photographs and sketches.
• Develops and reviews scopes of work and cost estimates per codes and standards.
• Reviews engineering reports, designs, and as‑built plans.
• Evaluates hazard mitigation proposals and benefit‑cost analyses, and communicates final determinations to applicants.
• Provides analyses, participates in FEMA status meetings, and identifies need for technical specialists.
• May coordinate basic to moderately complex site inspections for FEMA Public Assistance.
• Other duties as assigned.
