The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Disability Services Advisor to support students with disabilities within the Center for Students with Disabilities. The position is full-time for 9 months with no summer work, focusing on service eligibility, accommodations, and advocacy.

Responsibilities include intake, collaboration with faculty and staff, confidentiality under FERPA, and ongoing records management. Strong understanding of disability laws is preferred; Master’s degree is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Vocational Rehab, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
• Two or more years of direct experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Responsabilités

• Conduct intake appointments leading to a service eligibility determination and recommendations for reasonable accommodations as appropriate.
• Assist students in understanding their legal rights and responsibilities.
• Promote student self-reliance and the development of appropriate self-advocacy skills.
• Interpret assessment data to translate into accommodations plans in a post-secondary setting.
• Facilitate communication between faculty, staff, and students with disabilities and provide ongoing consultation.
• Develop new methods for resolving complex disability-related accommodation issues.
• Communicate with parents/guardians to support student independence.
• Maintain confidentiality under FERPA and create up-to-date electronic records.
