Brief Job Description

The Disability Resource Management (DRM) Program Supervisor I is selected by the DRM Unit Manager with approval of the Senior Director. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Performs routine administrative and supervisory work. Work involves assisting in establishing program goals and objectives, assisting in developing program guidelines, procedures, policies, rules, and regulations, assisting in developing schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving program goals, and assisting in evaluating program activities. Supervises the work of others.

Oversees the confirmation and authorization of payment; the creation and maintenance of an accurate database for consultative exams, medical evidence of record, travel, language interpreters, and other services directly related to claims determination in accordance with the State of Texas Prompt Payment Act.

Work involves coordinating or overseeing administrative operations of the agency or division.

Directly supervises the work of Payment Processing Center (PPC) and Vendor Data Management (VDM) Technical Leaders and assists in planning, preparing, or overseeing the preparation of reports.

Provides management oversight for approximately 25-30 PPC staff and 10 VDM staff.

Develops administrative procedures, standards, and methods, and prepares technical aspects of manuals and publications.

This position occasionally requires work during the weekends, holidays, and before or after normal business hours.

Disability Determination Services (DDS) employees perform all business functions for the Social Security Administration (SSA), using the federal SSA network and equipment.

Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD)-12 security clearance is required.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates Payment Processing Center (PPC) and Vendor Data Management (VDM) activities to ensure that the Disability Determination Services (DDS) objectives are achieved. 35%
  • Supervises the work of PPC and VDM staff; completes/conducts career ladder, merit raises, & performance evaluations for all PPC and VDM employees. 20%
  • Establishes standards for customer-focused communication and coordination within areas of responsibility and with all internal and external associates and customers. 20%
  • Serves as PPC and VDM subject matter expert, provides technical guidance, and consults with the DRM Unit Manager and/or Director as requested. 5%
  • Assists in the development of program guidelines, procedures, policies, rules and regulations, and monitors compliance with policies and procedures. 5%
  • Prepares and reviews reports on the effectiveness of PPC and VDM program activities and assists in the preparation of training & operation manuals, educational materials, and information programs. 5%

Initial Screening Criteria
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Related work experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
  • Employment stability in applicants’ work history as demonstrated in the application.
  • Documented experience supervising others for two years.
  • Excellent written communications as observed by detail and completeness of information provided on the state application.

A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration (SSA) is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems.
