Job summary

Human Learning Systems in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a Disability Coordinator/Special Ed/Reading Instructor to administer the center's disability and accommodations programs and to develop accommodation plans with applicants.

You will collaborate with instructors to implement plans, monitor effectiveness, document in CIS, and ensure compliance with DOL and center guidelines while engaging students with patience and care.

Responsibilities

• Serves as RAC chair or co-chair, schedules meetings, and documents outcomes.
• Reviews applicant accommodations for Job Corps participation and coordinates with regional office.
• Contacts students before arrival to determine accommodation needs.
• Identifies functional limitations and works with instructors to implement accommodations.
• Ensures accessibility and barrier removal across center areas.
• Meets with students to review accommodation effectiveness and documents in CIS.
• Assists with accommodation review during work-based learning and transition periods.
• Evaluates TABE waiver requests to support accommodations.
• Ensures program compliance with DOL, corporate, and center guidelines.
• Coordinates with Health and Wellness Department for medical needs.
• Emails staff biweekly with list of students with accommodation plans in CIS.
• Determines eligibility and requests funding for accommodations at center or regional/national level.
• Develops accommodations and teaches test-taking skills for ELL, TABE, HSE/HSD, and ASVAB exams.
• Assists with curriculum development and special learning projects.
• Enters information into CIS and maintains files to meet department expectations.
• Promotes a positive, safe classroom/training environment to maximize motivation and outcomes.
