Job summary

Wake Technical Community College seeks a Coordinator 7 to oversee Disability Support Services, coordinating accommodations and eligibility determinations across campuses.

You will manage intake, maintain records, arrange testing, provide crisis support, and liaise with faculty and community partners; travel between campuses as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Disabilities, Special Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Assistive Technology, or a related field.
  • One year experience working with students with disabilities in a secondary or post-secondary educational environment.
  • Experience interpreting psychological, educational, and/or medical documentation required for determination of accommodations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates services for students with disabilities and determines eligible accommodations.
  • Provides crisis intervention to students as needed.
  • Monitors student progress and guides disability-related planning.
  • Schedules testing and counseling appointments; maintains confidentiality.

Job description

Pay Grade: Coordinator 7

This position is responsible for coordinating services for students with disabilities., To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.

  • Conducts student intake process and forms within case management system, including review and evaluation of disability documentation to determine students' eligibility for services and appropriate accommodations
  • Provides crisis intervention to students on an as needed basis
  • Monitors progress of students and provides guidance as it relates to or impacts disability
  • Facilitates priority registration for students eligible for DSS services
  • Assists students in requesting and arranging instructional, technical, facility, and human resource accommodations
  • Schedules student testing appointments for assigned satellite campus(es)
  • Schedules and provides support counseling appointments
  • Conducts study sessions in the absence of a Learning Specialist or in an emergency
  • Keeps abreast of state-of-art technology, techniques, laws, services, and philosophy relevant to disability areas
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of student interactions in a case management system
  • Maintains confidentiality when interacting with students, families, faculty, staff and community partners
  • Assists in the supervision and coordination of department personnel and operations
  • Provides occasional technical support for alternative student testing and converts materials into an alternative format as needed
  • Promotes positive student self-advocacy skills and acts as an advocate for student needs with faculty and staff when necessary
  • Assists students in developing realistic, goal-directed education plans that respect their disability
  • Serves as a resource for students, faculty, and staff and serves on various college committees/initiatives
  • Develops and implements internal/external workshops that will educate future/current students, faculty, and staff regarding disability services
  • Provides liaisons, consultation, and referral services for students to community agencies and professionals
  • Arranges service implementation and accommodations with various campuses and programs
  • Promotes disability awareness and helps the College's faculty, staff, and students develop positive attitudes toward disability
  • Participates in events such as graduation, open house, transition fairs, internal/external outreach, etc. which may include occasional evening and weekend hours
Ability To Travel Between Campuses, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to contribute to the general teamwork efforts required of the staff to maintain Disability Support Services
  • Ability to interpret psychological, educational, and/or medical documentation required for the determination of accommodations
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Working knowledge of various disabilities
  • Intermediate knowledge of disability laws as they pertain to higher education and students with disabilities including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the American with Disabilities Act
  • Ability to relate effectively with students from a variety of backgrounds, including patience with under prepared or challenging students
Requirements
