Job summary

Waukesha County's Department of Health & Human Services seeks a full-time Disability Benefit Specialist to assist residents aged 17 years and 6 months to 59 years.

You will provide benefit counseling, information, assistance, and advocacy to help clients obtain and maintain public and private benefits. Strong knowledge of state and federal programs and excellent communication are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or related field.
• One year of full-time experience in health or human services with elderly or adults with disabilities.
• Strong knowledge of benefit programs and eligibility criteria.

Responsibilities

• Interview clients to assess needs and intervention timing.
• Provide information and assistance on benefits, housing, insurance, and related areas.
• Analyze options and advise on best resolution paths.
• Advocate for clients, prepare hearings, and gather evidence.
• Collaborate with legal aid and community resources as needed.
• Maintain detailed records and reports for caseloads.
