Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Disability Adjudicator to independently evaluate SSDI/SSI claims. You will analyze medical and vocational evidence, adjudicate initial and reconsideration cases, and maintain a caseload of 80-100 claims in a self-directed environment in Salem, Oregon.

The role requires a related degree or extensive experience with SSA programs, DCPS proficiency, and strong customer service skills.HSPD-12 credential is required at hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field; either 3 years of relevant SSDI/SSI eligibility work or 6 years of related experience
• Two of the three years must include evaluating SSDI/SSI benefits
• Experience adjudicating SSDI/SSI claims and reviewing medical evidence
• Experience with DCPS and working in independent, self-directed environments

Responsibilities

• Independently evaluate and approve/deny initial disability applications
• Conduct reconsideration reviews of contested denials
• Manage an independent caseload of 80-100 claims

Job description

• Independently evaluate and approve or deny initial disability applications under the Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income programs
• Conduct reconsideration reviews of contested initial denials or unfavorable onset decisions
• Manage an independent caseload of approximately 80-100 claims, including initial claims, reconsiderations, court-mandated cases, and specialized SSA workloads
• Analyze medical, vocational, and lay evidence and apply Social Security laws, regulations, and policies
• Issue legally sound disability determinations, including allowances and denials
• Develop and document claims by obtaining and evaluating medical and third-party evidence
• Resolve discrepancies and prepare residual functional capacity (RFC) assessments
• Determine claimants' ability to engage in substantial gainful activity
• Conduct case audits and court-ordered reviews using de novo standards
• Identify, authorize, and coordinate necessary consultative examinations
• Provide professional customer service to claimants, partners, and colleagues
• Participate in training, policy development, and knowledge-sharing initiatives

Requirements

• Three years of experience compiling and analyzing facts to determine eligibility requirements in compliance with program guidelines and regulations
• Two of those three years must include evaluating applicants for Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income program benefits
• Bachelor's degree in medicine, psychology, nursing, pharmacy, rehabilitation counseling, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field; OR three years of responsible, pertinent experience providing knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, physical and mental impairments, effects on work performance, and treatment, prognosis, and duration of impairments
• OR six years of progressively related professional-level experience, training, and education typically leading to the required knowledge and skills; two years must include evaluating SSDI and SSI applicants
• Current Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 (HSPD-12) credential at time of hire
• Minimum of two years' experience adjudicating Social Security Disability (SSDI/SSI) claims, including reviewing medical evidence and making eligibility determinations
• Experience using the DDS Disability Case Processing System (DCPS)
• Experience independently managing a caseload, prioritizing work, meeting deadlines, and maintaining accuracy
• Experience working in an independent, self-directed environment while meeting workload, productivity, and quality standards
• Cover letter addressing each essential attribute
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; the Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship
