Summary

The Well-Being Director leads the day-to-day operations of the Office of Wellness Coordination and Intervention (WCI) within the Office of Education Affairs. The Director partners with key stakeholders to plan, strategize, leverage existing resources, and implement programs and services that promote wellness and enhance resilience among Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) students and trainees.

The duties of this role do not include providing mental health treatment. However, clinical expertise, crisis intervention experience, knowledge of current treatment modalities, and maintenance of ethical standards, licensure, and continuing education are required to effectively perform the responsibilities of the position.

Reporting Structure:

Job Duties

• Provides leadership for the Office of Wellness Coordination and Intervention (WCI), including annual planning, key initiatives, budgeting, and reporting.
• Oversees the clinically oriented Wellness Intervention Team (WIT).
• Supervises WCI staff and supports team development.
• Maintains WCI databases and shared information systems.
• Prepares reports and presentations on program usage, needs, and stakeholder satisfaction.
• Works collaboratively to uphold the values of BCM.
• Supports the dual mission of WCI:
  • To provide evidence-based wellness and resilience education and resources to students, postdoctoral research fellows, medical residents, and clinical fellows.
  • To coordinate the institutional response to higher-level wellness concerns involving students through the Wellness Intervention Team (WIT).

Wellness & Resilience Education and Resources:

• Plans, implements and evaluates activities, workshops, and events related to wellness topics such as stress management, burnout, resilience, mindfulness, and mental health resources.
• Serves as liaison with the schools, departments, and offices to plan wellness-related workshops and training for students and trainees.
• Serves as liaison to contracted vendors that provide office-related support services to BCM students and trainees.
• Oversees website and social media presence for the WCI office.
• Participates in the accreditation processes related to the health and well-being of students and trainees.

Wellness Intervention Team (WIT):

• The Director serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary Wellness Intervention Team (WIT). The WIT provides higher-level crisis response coordination, case management (not clinical treatment), resource referrals, and fitness-for-duty evaluation referrals. The WIT also prepares reports and coordinates official institutional clearances for medical concerns and leaves of absence.
• The Director facilitates the WIT’s collaborative decision-making process, incorporating the multi-disciplinary expertise of all team members.
• The Director ensures that WIT members maintain continuing education and training in content areas required to perform WIT duties.
• The Director maintains a caseload of WIT cases and serves as a liaison to the schools.
• The Director serves as the primary contact for vendors supporting the WIT.
• The Director communicates College policy to individuals served by the WCI office, responds to policy-related questions, and develops internal procedures to ensure compliance.
• The Director ensures that the WIT adheres to ethical guidelines and best practices regarding the storage of and access to sensitive and confidential information.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

• Doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD, MD, or equivalent) in psychology, counseling, medicine, or a related field.

Experience and Competencies:

• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
• Collaborative leadership style with commitment to wellness.
• Expertise in psychological assessment and crisis intervention.
• Experience in higher education and/or medical or mental health settings.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and academic leadership.
• Experience with diverse populations and commitment to DEI principles.
• Experience with both qualitative and quantitative assessment methods.
• Experience developing and managing wellness programs.
• Strategic planning, budgeting, and reporting experience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in complex, fast-paced environments.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Texas licensure as a Psychologist, Physician (MD), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in academic medicine, biomedical, hospital, or mental health settings.
• Demonstrated success working with administrators, faculty, students, and trainees.
