Cardinal Health is seeking a Director of Transportation – First/Middle Mile to provide centralized leadership for U.S. transportation activities across manufacturing sites, docks, and replenishment centers.

You will lead a ~20-person team and manage a substantial budget, focusing on cost reduction and on-time delivery. The role requires 12+ years in transportation/logistics with leadership, strong carrier management, and expertise in TMS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• 12+ years in transportation/logistics with leadership in multi-site setups.
• Proven large-budget management (e.g., $100M+).
• Carrier management, contract negotiation, stakeholder relationships.
• Strong analytics to drive performance improvements.
• Experience with route optimization tech and TMS.
• Excellent leadership and cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for all U.S. first and middle mile transportation operations across manufacturing sites, cross docks, and replenishment centers.
• Lead, develop, and mentor a ~20-person transportation team.
• Own and manage a transportation budget of ~ $200M, driving cost efficiency and on-time performance.
• Drive network optimization initiatives: routing efficiency, capacity planning, and cost-to-serve reductions.
• Ensure transportation excellence across the national distribution and manufacturing network.
• Lead transportation procurement activities: carrier sourcing, RFPs, contract negotiations, and vendor management.
• Manage relationships with 100+ carrier partners and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Distribution, Inventory, Commercial, Marketing, Systems, and Network Design teams.
• Establish and enforce transportation policies, governance standards, and best practices.
• Oversee customer onboarding, network transitions, and carrier integration initiatives.
• Leverage TMS and analytics to improve network performance and decision-making.
