Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, NJ seeks a Principal Scientist (Clinical Director) to lead Translational Medicine.

You will shape early clinical development strategy for cardiovascular programs, develop biomarker strategies, and collaborate across Discovery Sciences and late-stage Clinical Research to advance therapeutic candidates. The role requires an MD or MD/PhD with a strong translational research background, leadership skills, and ability to work across therapeutic areas.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in clinical medicine or clinical research and biomedical research.
• Publications or presentations demonstrating scientific scholarship and achievement.
• Strong interpersonal, writing and presentation skills; ability to work in a team across therapeutic areas.

Responsibilities

• Lead early development strategy design and execution for novel therapies.
• Author initial clinical and biomarker plans for Lead Optimization and Phase I–IV programs.
• Develop and execute studies to validate clinical platforms using biomarkers, imaging, and other modalities.
• Provide clinical pharmacology input for target/pathway validation and study design.
• Ensure safe and timely execution of Phase I studies with internal and external teams.
• Communicate study results clearly to governance bodies and cross-functional teams.
