Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. seeks a senior leader in Translational Medicine to drive early clinical development and biomarker strategy across therapeutic areas.

The role requires collaboration with Discovery Sciences and late-stage Clinical Research to advance programs from Preclinical Candidate through clinical Proof-of-Concept. The ideal candidate has MD/PhD-level training with a proven record in translational research, strong publication history, and excellent communication skills to lead

Qualifications

• Proven track record in clinical medicine or clinical research, and background in biomedical research.
• Publications or presentations demonstrating scholarly achievement.
• Strong interpersonal, writing and presentation skills; ability to work across therapy areas.

Responsibilities

• Lead early clinical development strategy for novel therapies.
• Draft initial clinical and biomarker plans for Lead Optimization and early molecules.
• Develop and validate clinical platforms using biomarkers (imaging, electrophysiology, behavioral assays).
• Identify and validate novel targets with translational input and plan preclinical/clinical pharmacology experiments.
• Oversee safe and timely execution of Phase I studies with cross-functional teams.
• Communicate study results clearly to governance and development review committees.
• Support business development and licensing assessments with clinical insights.
• Collaborate with Discovery Sciences, Regulatory Affairs and late-stage Clinical Research worldwide.
