BlockReel seeks a senior Director for a character-driven psychological thriller set in New York City. You will shape tone, performances, and visual storytelling for an 8-episode season, working with the showrunner and DP to realize a cohesive creative vision.

Applicants should have extensive narrative directing experience, a strong thriller/drama background, and a compelling reel. This is a deferred backend compensation role with NYC shoot days and local meals/travel provided.

A character-driven psychological thriller web series, set in the gritty underbelly of New York City, is seeking a senior Director. This independent production explores themes of redemption and moral ambiguity through a suspenseful narrative, promising a visually striking and emotionally resonant experience. We're looking for a visionary filmmaker to shape the tone and performances for our 8-episode season. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the showrunner and DP, guiding actors to nuanced performances, overseeing visual storytelling, and maintaining a cohesive creative vision across the series. You will be instrumental in pre-production, on-set execution, and providing creative input during post-production. Applicants should have extensive experience directing narrative content, preferably with a strong background in dramatic or thriller genres. A professional reel showcasing your directorial style and ability to elicit powerful performances is required. Experience with independent productions and working within budget constraints is a plus. We expect approximately 15-20 days of shooting across December 2026, primarily in and around NYC, with additional prep and post-production duties. This is a deferred compensation role, offering a backend percentage. Meals and travel within NYC will be provided during shoot days. Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit are essential for this upcoming project.
