Purpose of Role

The Director, Strategic Procurement – Supply Chain will own sourcing strategy and supplier management globally across our logistics and distribution network including all modes of transportation (parcel/ocean/air/ground), 3PL, distribution center operations spend (packaging/CapEx/temporary labor), freight (ocean/air/ground). This role partners with Supply Chain, Distribution, and Operations leadership to translate network needs into sourcing strategy, negotiate high-value logistics contracts, and build a resilient, cost-efficient supplier base while building and developing a team of category managers.

Category & Network Sourcing Strategy
  • Owns multi-year category strategies and annual sourcing plans aligned to network design, service requirements, cost objectives, risk management, and business growth priorities.
  • Develop and lead sourcing strategies across supply chain categories — regional transportation (Parcel/LTL/TL/intermodal), global transportation (ocean and air freight), international 3PL-operated distribution centers.
  • Conduct market research, rate benchmarking, and total cost of ownership (TCO) modeling across freight modes and geographies
Supplier, Carrier & 3PL/4PL Management
  • Establish and manage strategic relationships with all category partners
  • Define supplier/carrier segmentation, and contribute to regular business reviews to drive service reliability and continuous improvement
  • Lead supplier development activities and cross-functional review meetings to unlock further cost reduction and innovation
Negotiation & Contracting
  • Lead high-value, complex negotiations across the category.
  • In partnership with Finance, apply TCO-based analysis and varied negotiation tactics to optimize rate, service level, flexibility, and capacity commitments.
  • Partner with Legal on contract structure, SLAs, operational KPIs, liability provisions, capacity commitments, fuel/accessorial terms, and performance remedies for transportation, warehousing, and logistics services.
Cost Savings, Resilience & Risk Management
  • Own, deliver, and report against annual cost savings and value creation targets across the logistics/distribution portfolio
  • Analyze cost drivers (fuel, capacity, labor, mode mix) and build multi-sourcing and contingency strategies to mitigate network risks
  • Support scenario planning and reaction to disruptions — capacity constraints, geopolitical events, port/carrier issues — ensuring contract flexibility
  • Build and present business cases for network changes, mode shifts, and partner selection to senior stakeholders
Team Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of category managers and sourcing professionals.
  • Set clear priorities, define roles and deliverables, build capability, and create a culture of accountability, partnership, continuous improvement, and measurable business impact.
  • Define tasks and activities of staff, clearly describing deliverables, roles, and responsibilities for staff members.
  • Oversees operational controls to monitor performance and maximize the return on manpower investment. Measures project progress against plan.
  • Foster a culture of partnership, accountability, and continuous improvement across a global/regional team structure
Stakeholder Management & Influence
  • Serve as the primary procurement point of contact for Supply Chain, Distribution, and Operations business partners and executive leadership
  • Build trust and credibility with senior operations leaders, translating complex sourcing tradeoffs into business-relevant recommendations
Qualifications
  • Proven people-leadership experience, including managing and developing a team of sourcing managers.
  • Demonstrated success setting category strategies and negotiating complex multi-million-dollar freight, carrier, or distribution center contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills, including spend/rate analysis, TCO modeling, and freight market research.
  • Experience in retail, apparel, consumer goods, logistics, distribution, or complex global supply chains
  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and presentation skills, with experience partnering directly with Distribution/Operations leadership up to the Chief Supply Chain Officer/CFO level.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field preferred.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Ten or more years of Procurement or Supply Chain related experience.
  • Eight or more years of supervisory or management experience.
