Job summary

EchoStar, a leading technology and media company, is seeking a Director of Indirect Tax to steer state and local income and franchise tax across multiple states. You will lead a team of SALT professionals, advise executive leadership, and collaborate with external advisors.

The role emphasizes strategic planning for mergers and acquisitions, compliance leadership, and the adoption of AI-driven tax workflows to modernize the tax function.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, focused on state and local income tax within a Fortune 500 corporate tax department or Big 4 firm.
• CPA designation strongly preferred; MST/JD/LL.M. in Taxation highly preferred.
• Ability to translate complex state tax concepts for executives and non-tax professionals.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Planning & M&A: Identify and implement state tax planning opportunities and support for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
• Compliance Leadership: Oversee multi-state corporate income and franchise tax returns and optimize tax positions.
• Tax Accounting & Provision: Lead ASC 740 state tax provision, evaluate tax rates and uncertain positions.
• Audit Defense & Controversy: Manage state audits, draft responses, negotiate settlements, protect positions.
• Legislative & Policy Monitoring: Track and model tax legislation and advisory impacts.
• Team Development & Leadership: Build and mentor a high-performing SALT team and adopt AI tools to modernize tax workflows.
