Job summary

The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is seeking a Director, Governmental Affairs. Reporting to the Vice President, Governmental Affairs, the role will develop, coordinate and implement HANYS' state legislative and advocacy activities.

This position requires the ability to be present in Albany with limited notice, may involve periodic travel to HANYS headquarters in Rensselaer, New York, and a remote working arrangement may be considered within New York State.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• At least five years of related professional experience.
• Extensive knowledge of the NYS Legislature and executive branch.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Periodic travel within New York State.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate statewide legislative and advocacy activities.
• Represent HANYS with executives, legislators, staff, and external partners.
• Assess and provide expertise on state budget and legislation.
• Coordinate review of legislation with legal and policy teams.
• Advise and prepare policy communications and materials.
• Engage in internal strategy meetings and HANYS advocacy day.
• Support cross-functional collaboration and outreach.
