Job summary

City of Gaithersburg is seeking an experienced Division Chief to lead the Sports & Youth Services Division, overseeing programs, camps, facilities, and youth centers. The role requires strategic vision, strong communication, and innovative leadership to deliver high-quality recreation experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Physical Education, or related field.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience in organized recreation programs, including 4 years in a management or supervisory capacity.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification (may be obtained through the City on hire).
• CPRP or other relevant professional designation preferred.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate sports and youth services programs, summer camps, facilities, and events.
• Direct day-to-day operations, budgeting, performance monitoring, and staff assignments.
• Supervise personnel administration functions.
• Evaluate service delivery methods and staffing levels for improvements.
• Develop short- and long-term goals, policies, and priorities for programs.
• Engage with community groups to align programming with needs.
• Represent the City and the Department in public settings.
• Pursue continuous improvement and exemplary customer service.
