Job summary

Cornell University’s Biotechnology Resource Center seeks a Director for the Sample Preparation and Spatial Technologies Facility. This role provides scientific leadership, operational management, and strategic vision for a new core facility that enables researchers to access specialized sample preparation workflows and downstream analytic cores across genomics, imaging, proteomics, and bioinformatics.

Qualifications

• PhD in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, or related life sciences discipline
• Knowledge of life sciences laboratory operations, including shared resources
• Significant experience with molecular biology and genomics workflows (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, library prep, sequencing)
• Direct experience operating next‑generation sequencing platforms (library pooling, sequencing design, QC)
• Experience with additional areas relevant to the facility (proteomics, flow cytometry, imaging, single‑cell, spatial biology)
• Ability to learn and implement new technologies and workflows
• Ability to collaborate with researchers to provide consultation and training

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific and operational leadership for the facility and supervise personnel
• Oversee shared laboratory spaces and ensure safe, efficient operation of instrumentation
• Provide consultation on experimental design and integration with downstream BRC services
• Develop hands‑on training for users in sample prep workflows and instrumentation
• Collaborate with other core directors to develop cross‑technology workflows
• Manage cost recovery, budget forecasting, and resource planning
• Lead or collaborate on instrumentation and research proposals as appropriate
• Prepare and present reports to advisory boards and leadership
• Promote facility capabilities and build the user community
