The Opportunity: This position works out of our Alameda, CA office in the Lingo Division. Working on Lingo, you will help build a next-generation technology that enables individuals to make decisions about how to improve energy, lose weight or enhance athletic performance. The Director, Software Development establishes policies and procedures that produce high-quality digital software products. You will direct and oversee the software engineering function in developing, releasing, and maintaining software applications for Lingo. Responsibilities include creating functional strategies, developing budgets, policies, and procedures to support the department, and fostering a culture of high-quality software development.

What You’ll Work On:

• Launching high-performance, high-scale consumer-facing mobile and web applications.
• Managing teams of software developers and technical leads at multiple seniority levels.
• Owning software resource strategy and planning, including external partnerships.
• Providing employee performance management through goals, feedback, and coaching.
• Collaborating with product owners, architects, and business units to translate needs into high-quality solutions.
• Working with project managers and technical leads to influence scope and priorities.
• Having strong technical knowledge of mobile and cloud technologies.
• Authoring and updating policies and procedures.
• Managing vendors effectively.
• Aligning designs with long-term business goals and strategy.
• Mentoring and coaching technical staff.
• Inspiring development teams to deliver innovative solutions with a sense of urgency.
• Promoting knowledge sharing across teams.
• Ensuring on-time, high-quality product delivery throughout the application lifecycle.
• Fostering a culture of design excellence, quality, collaboration, and responsiveness.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or relevant field.
• Minimum of 10 years managing large-scale digital software teams.
• At least 2 years of experience in people management.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong people management skills and success in recruiting and motivating engineering teams.
• Understanding of mobile and cloud development methodologies and design patterns.
• Proficiency with SDLC methodologies like Agile and Test-Driven Development.
• Experience with Medical Devices industry systems.
• Ability to work independently and supervise diverse staff.
• Experience with Agile software development.
• Strong technical skills in mobile and cloud technologies.
