Job summary

AAAS seeks a Director of the EPI Center in Washington, DC to set the Center’s long-term strategy and manage day-to-day operations. You will lead a high-performing team, collaborate with funders, and drive strategic engagement with policymakers and scientists.

The role focuses on fundraising, budgetary oversight, and external partnerships, reporting to the Chief Program Officer within AAAS. A deep background in science policy and nonprofit leadership is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (preferred: advanced degree in science, public policy, or communications-related discipline)
  • 10+ years of experience in program development and management of science and policy programs in academia, government, or business
  • Fundraising experience in non-profits, including grant proposals and budgeting
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong project management experience across launches, development, and implementation; leadership of staff
  • Significant experience representing scientific/public policy issues (testimony, speeches, media)
  • Understanding of elected decision-makers and policy landscapes at multiple levels
  • Proven ability to build and maintain multi-stakeholder networks and partnerships

Responsibilities

  • Set long-term strategy for the EPI Center and oversee day-to-day operations
  • Lead fundraising strategy and cultivate funder relationships
  • Manage budget, grants, and personnel; supervise Center staff
  • Oversee public-facing content, reports, and outreach materials
  • Collaborate with AAAS programs to coordinate multi-audience engagement
