Job summary

Markel Service, Incorporated seeks a senior leader to manage and develop a team of junior analysts in evaluating and underwriting complex reinsurance opportunities. You will partner with senior management, oversee the Credit Committee process, and drive risk assessment, reporting, and compliance across portfolios.

The role emphasizes advanced analytical capabilities, collaboration with internal/external stakeholders, and leveraging AI tools to enhance efficiency and decision-making.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required.
• Proficiency with Artificial Intelligence tools strongly preferred.
• Strong problem-solving, research, analytical and quantitative skills.
• Knowledge of statutory and GAAP financial reporting standards preferred.
• Solid understanding of Letters of Credit and state insurance regulation preferred.
• Strong understanding of reinsurance structures and contracts preferred.
• Familiarity with property and casualty insurance markets and products preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance company rating methodologies preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for senior management presentations.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented and accurate.
• Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and with stakeholders.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of reinsurance analysts and oversee reinsurer portfolios.
• Assess creditworthiness of current and prospective counterparties and report findings to management.
• Conduct due diligence on new program opportunities and assist in structuring transactions.
• Manage the Credit Committee governance process and maintain documentation.
• Evaluate collateral adequacy and covenant compliance and advise on risk mitigation.
• Produce analytical reports on credit risk and the reinsurance portfolio for executives.
• Review Letters of Credit and collateral instruments for regulatory compliance.
• Analyze trust assets for contractual compliance and coordinate with reinsurers on exchanges.
• Support development of departmental systems, databases, and reporting tools.
• Leverage AI tools to enhance reporting and workflow automation.
• Develop relationships with reinsurers, program managers, brokers, banks, and partners.
• Collaborate with management and present findings and recommendations.
• Serve as SME and resource on reinsurance programs and Credit Committee decisions.
• Lead special projects and other duties as assigned.
