The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) is seeking a Chief of Regional Public Safety Programs to lead planning, coordination, and oversight of regional safety initiatives in the National Capital Region. Responsible for governance, budgets, and staff supervision, the role oversees grant-funded and locally funded work and collaborates with DHSPS and partner jurisdictions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Requires three years of progressive supervisory and professional work experience in homeland security/public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a portfolio of regional public safety programs aligning with regional priorities.
  • Lead development of long-term strategic plans, multi-year budgets, and governance structures.
  • Oversee grant-funded programs (UASI, STC) and procurement processes.
  • Supervise staff, coordinate with committees and partner agencies, and report to leadership.
  • Facilitate governance meetings and communicate program status to stakeholders.
