Job summary

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) is seeking a Chief of Regional Public Safety Programs to lead planning, coordination, and oversight of regional public safety programs across the NCR. Responsibilities include governance, financial management, strategic planning, and staff supervision, with coordination of grant-funded and local initiatives.

The role involves managing a team of three, overseeing vendor support, and reporting to the DHSPS Managing Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public policy or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Requires three years of progressive supervisory and professional work experience in homeland security and public safety.
• Requires three years or more management experience.
• Requires six or more years of relevant experience.
• Other combinations of experience and education will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a portfolio of regional public safety programs and align with regional priorities.
• Lead development of long-term strategic plans and multi-year budgets.
• Oversee transition of grant-funded programs to alternative funding sources with governance structures.
• Provide governance documents, policies, and program frameworks.
• Coordinate with regional committees and partner agencies; report regional risks and priorities.
• Supervise staff and ensure accountability; manage vendor work as needed.
