Job summary

Pivotal Systems seeks a Director of R&D and Laboratory Operations to lead and optimize research and development laboratory operations across Fremont, Reno, and other global facilities. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient labs while supporting product development and scientific excellence, with frequent travel to multiple sites.

The director will oversee facilities, budgets, and capital projects, drive process improvements, and steer the adoption of enterprise software and automation

Responsibilities

• Managing facilities and laboratory personnel, budgets, equipment, and related capital projects.
• Establishing operational policies and best practices; overseeing laboratory quality systems and EHS programs with deep focus on safe installation and operation of hazardous semiconductor process chemistries, both liquid and gaseous.
• Coordinating cross-functional work with engineering, manufacturing and product development teams; drive operational excellence through process improvement, resource optimization, and technology implementation.
• Involvement in industry roadmaps, R&D, and product development for semiconductor fluid delivery and process control.
• Advise/develop/implement ERP, data acquisition, building automation/control systems, laboratory or calibration software tools and calibration databases.
• Hire and manage CNC shop equipment and staff; small-scale cleanroom ops incl. orbital welding and QA/QC.
