Job summary

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, seeks a Director of Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement to lead QA/CI for the Locomotive division in Muncie, IN. You will establish processes, drive Six Sigma initiatives, and partner with operations to minimize waste and defects.

The role requires 10+ years in QA, expertise in ISO 9001 and AAR standards, and travel up to 40% domestically and internationally. A BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred.

Qualifications

• Min 10 years Quality Assurance experience, including leading teams of engineers and/or Six Sigma professionals.
• Knowledge of the rail industry and diverse manufacturing processes (Welding, Machining, Mechanical and Electro‑Mechanical Assembly).
• Proven track record of reducing cost of poor quality and increasing first-pass yields.
• Experience with AAR standards, ISO 9001 audits, and EN standards/requirements.
• Extensive experience with ISO, LEAN, Six Sigma, 6S and TQM methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to quality / test managers, team leaders and professional staff.
• Establish and develop common processes and procedures for the Business Unit.
• Instill a quality culture through QA, CI and supplier quality strategies.
• Lead audit function across the division and ensure compliance with ISO/AAR/EN standards.
• Manage budget and personnel development; coordinate with operations and design teams.
