Hanwha Convergence USA seeks an experienced Director, Project Management & Controls to establish a centralized PMO for the U.S. SI portfolio.

You will govern project planning, controls, reporting, and risk management, guiding project managers and site teams through mobilization, execution, and closeout. The role requires leading a PMO staff, ensuring consistent portfolio reporting, and driving improvements across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance, or a related field.

• Proven ability to improve PMO processes, governance, templates, systems, and reporting.
• Strong scheduling, cost control, cash flow, forecasting, and risk/change management knowledge.
• Experience with full project lifecycle from design to turnover and closeout.
• Advanced Excel; practical experience with Primavera P6, MS Project, ERP systems, and dashboards; Power BI preferred.
• English communication, leadership, and cross-functional skills; willingness to travel.

Job description

Hanwha Convergence USA (HCU) is seeking an experienced Director, Project Management & Controls to establish and lead the centralized project management, controls, and project assurance function for the U.S. SI Business portfolio. As HCU expands from FMCS, HMI, and SCADA system integration into broader controls and field construction execution, the Director will create consistent governance, project controls, and management reporting across the full project lifecycle. The role will provide portfolio-level oversight of schedule, progress, cost, forecast, billing, risk, change, and major execution / quality issues; challenge project assumptions and provide clear executive visibility; and directly support project mobilization, issue resolution, and recovery at site when required. The Director will lead PMO / Project Controls staff and work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, engineering, construction, and business-support functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

PMO Establishment, Governance & Process Improvement (30%)

• Assess current project-management, planning, controls, reporting, and data practices across the U.S. SI Business; identify gaps, unclear ownership, inconsistent methods, and opportunities for standardization and automation
• Design and implement a practical project-management and controls framework covering project handover / kickoff, WBS / CBS, baseline approval, progress measurement, cost and forecast control, change / risk management, reporting, escalation, turnover, and closeout
• Establish standard procedures, stage gates, templates, KPI definitions, reporting calendars, RACI matrices, review routines, and minimum control requirements appropriate for projects of different size and delivery model
• Develop efficient tools, dashboards, and data structures that provide a reliable single view of project performance and support timely, fact-based management decisions
• Define project health-review and escalation criteria, coach Project Managers and Site Managers on required management practices, and continuously improve the operating model based on lessons learned
• Govern integrated project schedules across engineering, material / equipment readiness, fabrication, site mobilization, field construction, testing, commissioning, turnover, warranty / maintenance, and final closeout; monitor critical path, milestones, interfaces, and recovery requirements
• Consolidate and validate physical progress, manpower / resource status, productivity, schedule variance, and recovery plans; challenge project updates when reported performance is not supported by field conditions or objective evidence
• Oversee project and portfolio cost performance, including control budgets, actuals, commitments, cash flow, revenue / billing, forecast margin, and major cost exposures; ensure current risks and changes are reflected in forecasts
• Maintain portfolio visibility of key risks, issues, changes, actions, decisions, and major quality / technical / compliance matters that can affect delivery, cost, schedule, or customer commitments
• Lead weekly and monthly project-performance reviews, annual plans and rolling forecasts, portfolio dashboards, and executive reporting for U.S. leadership and Korea HQ; clearly explain variances, trends, required actions, and management decisions

Site Project Assurance, Mobilization & Recovery / Team Leadership (30%)

• Visit active and newly established project sites to validate actual progress, schedule readiness, staffing, material readiness, controls, reporting discipline, and major execution issues
• Support new-project mobilization by establishing the initial management / controls structure, baseline schedule, reporting routines, responsibility matrix, issue-escalation process, and management cadence before and during field startup
• When significant schedule delay, cost exposure, quality / execution breakdown, or other critical issues arise, lead cross-functional recovery efforts with the responsible Project Manager / Site Manager, including recovery plans, action tracking, resource coordination, and management escalation
• Provide hands‑on leadership at site, including temporary extended presence when required, to drive resolution of priority issues while maintaining clear accountability for day‑to‑day execution with the assigned Project Manager / Site Manager
• Lead and develop PMO / Project Controls staff, ensure consistent portfolio reporting and control records, and coordinate project‑compliance reporting requirements, including LCPtracker / certified‑payroll tracking where applicable

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance, or a related field
• 10+ years of progressive experience in project management, project controls, PMO, construction management, or project delivery in EPC, industrial construction, semiconductor facilities, automation, or systems integration, including leadership responsibility
• Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing multiple projects / a project portfolio and working effectively in both office‑based management and field execution environments
• Proven experience building or significantly improving project‑management / Project Controls processes, governance, procedures, templates, systems, and reporting standards
• Strong hands‑on knowledge of integrated scheduling, critical‑path analysis, progress measurement, recovery planning, cost control, cash flow, forecasting, billing, change management, and risk / issue management
• Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle, including engineering and design, material and equipment readiness, fabrication, field construction, testing and commissioning, turnover, warranty / maintenance, and closeout
• Advanced Excel skills and practical experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, ERP / accounting systems, and management‑reporting or dashboard tools; Power BI experience preferred
• Experience with Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, FMCS / HMI / SCADA, semiconductor, industrial automation, or facility‑infrastructure projects preferred; AACE, PMI, PMP, or similar certification is a plus
• Strong English communication, analytical, leadership, and cross‑functional problem‑solving skills; Korean proficiency preferred but not required. Ability and willingness to travel regularly to U.S. project sites and remain on site for extended periods when project conditions require

• Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via video conferencing.

• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, professional business environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, with travel requirements of up to approximately 25%-40%.
