Job summary

DICK'S Sporting Goods is seeking a Director, Corporate Counsel - Product & Patents to lead patent clearance activities and manage the company’s IP portfolio. You will support product innovation, advise engineering and design teams, and coordinate with outside patent counsel.

Qualifications

• JD required from an accredited law school.
• Bar admission in at least one US state; in‑house eligibility in PA.
• 3–5 years of patent/IP experience in law firms or corporate settings.
• Experience drafting clearance opinions and patent applications.
• Experience with patent searches (prior-art, FTO, landscape).
• Strong technical fluency to understand patents and engineering.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; organized and collaborative.
• Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead patent and IP clearance for product innovation.
• Perform FTO, patentability, prior-art and landscape analyses.
• Draft clearance opinions and manage patent portfolio.
• Coordinate with outside patent counsel and prosecution.
• Advise product/engineering/technology teams on IP risks.
• Provide guidance on AI, data governance, privacy and software issues.
• Develop scalable legal guidance for product teams.
• Partner with IP, Privacy, Commercial and Brand teams.
