This opening can be filled in a remote/work-from-home (WFH) capacity or in one of our offices.

This Director leads our P&C Commercial Lines Middle Market Portfolio Management team, comprised of data analysis and commercial insurance product management experts. They partner with Middle Market field practice leaders and line of business leaders to facilitate profit improvement and growth strategies, and liaise with finance, actuarial, business insights, and product management to support these efforts.

In addition to expertise in the Property & Casualty Insurance industry and the respective regulatory requirements, candidates for this role must possess:

  • Strong leadership competency
  • Executive presence and communication
  • Ability to influence and drive accountability
  • Understanding of data analysis and storytelling tools
  • A proactive and innovative approach in using data to draw insights, drive partnerships, and support the business

Prior experience within Commercial Lines insurance and/or formal people leadership are especially helpful, but not required.

Job Description Summary

As a Director, you'll lead the commercial lines regional product team in design, development, and maintenance of middle and small market products across multiple channels. You'll be responsible for creating and implementing recommendations on design, pricing, underwriting, agency management, distribution, claims, and other processes related to managing products in the field. You'll be accountable for the profitability, growth, and success of commercial lines (CL) products in an assigned region.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing a coordinated short-term and long-term CL product strategy across CL middle market and small market (SM) product lines, ensuring appropriate placement in the marketplace to achieve strategic goals and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Directing development, implementation, and maintenance of CL product features/capabilities, with accountability for product growth and profitability. Managing projects for new CL business or new implementations, and overseeing system changes to improve product performance.
  • Managing the selection, training, and coaching of the regional CL Product team to ensure proficiency and professionalism.
  • Establishing research and product development objectives and standards, conducting market research, and proactively identifying product opportunities.
  • Leading analysis of product design, pricing, and related processes such as distribution and claims within the region.
  • Determining project priorities, monitoring performance measurements, and aligning organizational structure to meet business needs.
  • Translating strategic plans into organizational direction, developing business plans, budgets, and timelines.
  • Leading associates, providing performance management, hiring, and disciplinary actions.
  • Building collaborative partnerships across functions, developing customer service standards, and delivering training on new products.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Commercial Lines Product Leader; typically has five to seven direct reports.

Qualifications include:

  • Undergraduate studies in insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, risk management, economics, finance, accounting, business administration, or related fields; MBA preferred.
  • Insurance licenses or designations such as CPCU, ARM, CLU, FLMI, ChFC, CFP, NASD preferred.
  • At least eight years of experience in personal or commercial lines insurance, financial services, marketing, or communications, including four years in product management and leadership roles. Multiline experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of analytical tools, core business functions, underwriting policies, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, proficiency with analytical systems, decision-making ability, and project management skills.
