Director, Middle Market Business Development - Commercial Lines (P&C Insurance)

Join Nationwide as a Director, Middle Market Business Development - Commercial Lines (P&C Insurance). This role focuses on leading a team within our Commercial Middle Market Custom Solutions organization, managing a Northeast territory with 5-8 managers.

This is a remote/WFH position, requiring about 33% travel across OH, PA, DE, MD, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME, with Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, or the Boston Metro area being especially preferred.

The ideal candidate is action-oriented, capable of working at a high pace, with prior technical underwriting experience and existing broker/agency relationships. Leadership experience is a plus but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Monitoring market conditions and analyzing performance for profitable growth.
• Directing pricing standards and underwriting strategies.
• Developing sales plans, building relationships with agents/brokers, and expanding business.
• Leading and coaching team members, overseeing operational standards, and ensuring excellent customer service.
• Collaborating with internal and external partners to meet business objectives.
• Supervising staff performance, training, and development.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• Relevant professional designation such as CPCU or CIC is preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, sales, marketing, and agency management, especially in middle market segments.

Skills and Abilities:

• Advanced knowledge of property/casualty insurance operations and products.
• Excellent communication, decision-making, and leadership skills.
• Ability to perform independently within underwriting authority.

Additional info:
