Job summary

Valar Atomics Inc. is seeking a Director of Electrical - Power Distribution to architect and deliver islanded power systems for multi‑gigawatt microgrids.

You will own the electrical system from generator terminals to customer meters, guiding transformer, switchyard, and protection design to ensure reliability for safety‑critical nuclear applications. You will lead a growing team, define standards, oversee studies, and collaborate with reactor, safety, automation, and OT groups to meet

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus.
• 15+ years of power systems engineering experience, including 7+ years leading teams.
• Deep expertise in power system analysis and dynamic stability; hands-on with ETAP, PSS/E, PSCAD, etc.
• Experience delivering HV/EHV substations, switchyards, and large collector systems.
• Strong command of protection and relaying philosophy and design for generators, transformers, lines, and buses.
• Experience with large generation interconnection and frequency/voltage control.
• Proven ability to build teams from the ground up and deliver on aggressive schedules.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead an in-house Power Distribution engineering organization.
• Own the electrical architecture of islanded multi‑gigawatt microgrids from generator terminals to customer meter.
• Engineer step‑up transformers, medium‑voltage collector systems, HV/EHV switchyards, and substations.
• Own power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, and... IEEE 1584 compliance.
• Define functional requirements for generator controls and microgrid dispatch with OT teams.
• Coordinate with customer engineering on load characteristics and interconnection points.
• Set design basis and equipment standards for repeatable deployment across sites.
• Develop equipment specifications and lead procurement for large power equipment.
