Job summary

HiveWatch is seeking a Director, People & Culture to build and lead the People function end to end. This player-coach role will own total rewards and benefits, shape culture, and run core HR operations while overseeing recruiting.

You will report to the COO and contribute to org design, employee experience, and a scalable people program across multiple states with a hybrid work model in El Segundo, CA.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive People experience with ownership of rewards, culture, and HR generalist responsibilities
• Experience with HRIS and benefits administration platforms (e.g., BambooHR, Ease, Rippling, Gusto, Warp, Justworks, or similar)
• Strong knowledge of California employment law and compliance, including wage and hour, leave, and pay transparency
• Experience supporting hourly, shift-based teams across multiple states
• Startup or high-growth experience; able to build programs from scratch
• Player-coach mindset; comfortable setting strategy and doing hands-on work
• Experience partnering on hiring processes and talent acquisition strategy
• Willingness to travel up to 25%
• Hybrid or distributed workforce experience
• PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP a plus

Responsibilities

• Shape HiveWatch culture and translate values into practices, rituals, and policies
• Design engagement, recognition, and internal communications for a hybrid team
• Partner with leadership on org design and change management during growth
• Lead employee listening efforts and turn insights into action
• Own end-to-end benefits program design, renewals, broker relationships, and communications
• Design compensation structures with finance (pay bands, leveling, merit/bonus cycles)
• Benchmark pay and benefits against market data for competitiveness and equity
• Ensure compliance with federal, state (CA and TX), and local requirements in total rewards
• Support 24/7 GSOC operations: scheduling, time card compliance, overtime, breaks, training, hiring for new sites
• Manage payroll data changes and time/attendance inputs with Finance
• Run full employee lifecycle: onboarding, performance support, relations, offboarding
• Act as primary contact for employee relations, investigations, accommodations, leaves, and conflicts
• Develop HR policies, the handbook, and scalable people processes
• Partner with Legal on multi-state compliance and policy updates
• Manage HRIS and people systems; ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy
• Scale employee training resources including mandated trainings
