As the Fortune BrandsDirector, Payroll,you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll processing for our 11K salaried and hourly employees across our multiple brands in the US and Canada. You will guide and mentor a team of specialists, oversee quarter/year-end tax processing, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

The ideal candidate will have approximately (10 +) years’ experience in managing multi-state, high-volume payroll operations and (5+) years’ experience managing a team within sizable enterprises utilizing Workday Payroll.Additionally, they will demonstrate a track record of successfully leading and nurturing teams, coupled with a genuine enthusiasm for tackling complex issues head-on and innovating streamlined methodologies and protocols.

This is ahybrid-basedrole which includes working 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in our Deerfield, IL headquarters.

RESPONSIBLIITIES:

What you will be doing

  • Overall responsibility for the preparation, processing and approval of all payroll related activities of payroll team with multiple payroll cycles, for US and Canadian employees.
  • Design and implement a payroll strategy and roadmap of process and efficiency enhancements, to fully leverage Workday along designing a global support model to create a payroll COE.
  • Lead and manage the payroll team, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees.
  • Designs, develops, and reviews policies, procedures, controls, and business practices to ensure compliance with state and federal wage and tax laws. Recommends modifications where required to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Develops department goals and objectives, prioritizes short-term and long-term initiatives, reviews and monitors all payroll activities to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Oversees payroll accounting activities.
  • Oversees exception processing, irregular activities, and/or highly sensitive issues to provide timely escalations and problem resolution.
  • Responsible for reporting and monitoring key performance metrics to identify risks, trends, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Builds and manages cross functional relationships with HR partners, management, and internal/external auditors.
  • Manages SOX, regulatory compliance, financial, tax or any other internal/ external audit requests in a timely manner.
  • Manages vendor relationships and monitors vendor performance against SLAs.
  • Analyzes, audits, and approves payrolls for accuracy and SOX compliance.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining payroll procedures, and implementing best practices to ensure compliance with company policies and all regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Tax, Legal, Finance, HR, and other corporate teams on projects, payroll-related inquiries, or resolution of issues.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an additional 10 years of payroll experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of multi-state payroll experience inclusive of a minimum of 5 years of managerial experience, with large employer (5,000+), is required.
  • Expertise in payroll transformation, automation and technology integration (e.g: ADP, Workday, UKG WFM)
  • Workday HCM certification – Payroll and 5+ years of implementation expertise.
  • Understanding of stock (vesting, options, etc.) and non-qualified deferred compensation plans a plus.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
  • Extremely structured thinking and strong communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, solution focused.
  • Ability to partner with others and collaborate across the organization.
  • Background in global shared services or global business environments
  • Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and discretion.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, collaborative, dynamic and results driven environment.
Additional Information

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range:$124,000 - $183,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
