Job summary

Kendo Holdings, Inc. in San Francisco seeks a Director, Packaging Development – Fenty to lead high quality, cost effective packaging from concept to manufacturing. This hybrid role is based in our downtown SF office with Tue-Thu in-office and Mon/Fri remote.

The Director will guide design and oversee multiple packaging projects across brands, manage a 2-5 person team, and partner with Marketing, Creative, Operations and Product Development to advance sustainable packaging.

Qualifications

• BS in Packaging Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 10+ years in package development/engineering with a best-in-class beauty company.
• Proven track record in cosmetics packaging and cross-functional collaboration.
• Strong GMP knowledge and leadership ability.

Responsibilities

• Guide technical, aesthetic & cost aspects of packaging design (concept ideation, 3D design).
• Oversee all packaging projects across sellable, non-sellable, samples and accessories.
• Execute feasibility on design, COGS, manufacturing capabilities and timing.
• Identify suitable suppliers based on project requirements.
• Aware of cost impact of each component or production methods.
• Evolve packaging aesthetics with Packaging Design.
• Oversee color/deco submissions, standards, and range boards.
• Resolve packaging related quality issues and timeline challenges.
• Review and approve technical drawings; lead packaging tooling efforts.
• Oversee packaging testing, analyze test results and assess risk.
• Oversee line trials, fill weights, and spec compliance.
• Issue label claims, dielines, recycling codes and UPC for artwork.
• Artwork proofing for packaging elements; maintain component specs.
• Support QA/ package data inquiries.
• Lead resourcing and cost-savings initiatives.
• Interface with Marketing, Creative, Operations, and Product Development.
• Understand cosmetic packaging manufacturing processes.
• Develop new packaging processes and systems; stay current on trends.
• Drive sustainability initiatives.
