Job summary

Howard University seeks a Director to lead its Online Master of Social Work program, providing strategic and administrative direction for nationwide online education. The role ensures academic quality, enrollment strength, accreditation readiness, and strong field education integration.

The candidate will oversee staff, coordinate adjuncts, manage budgets, and collaborate across schools, departments, and external partners to advance social justice and the Black Perspective in online learning.

Qualifications

• MSW from a CSWE-accredited program is required.
• Doctoral degree in social work, higher education, or related field preferred.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in social work education or online program administration required.
• Experience with accreditation, assessment, and compliance is preferred.
• Experience supervising professional staff and coordinating faculty is required.
• Social work licensure (LICSW/LCSW/LMSW) preferred where applicable.
• Demonstrated use of data to evaluate programs and improve outcomes is required.
• Commitment to Howard University’s mission and the School of Social Work’s Black Perspective.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for the online MSW program and national online student population.
• Lead academic quality, curriculum coordination, and online teaching effectiveness.
• Coordinate accreditation, assessment, and compliance activities for CSWE standards.
• Design initiatives to improve student orientation, advising, progress monitoring, retention, and graduation.
• Collaborate with field education leadership for distributed placements and partnerships.
• Oversee online program operations, workflows, and technology coordination.
• Partner with admissions, marketing, and leadership on recruitment and pathways.
• Support faculty and staff onboarding, orientation, and training.
• Assist in budgeting, resource planning, and reporting for the Dean and leadership.
• Represent the program in academic, professional, and community settings.
