Working closely with leaders, superintendents, project teams, and subject-matter experts, the Director brings learning and development expertise to determine the right approach for each need and measures whether those solutions are making a difference on the job and in the business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Needs Assessment and Learning Strategy
  • Build strong consulting relationships with Blum leaders, managers, superintendents, and project teams to understand business priorities and development needs.
  • Identify performance and capability gaps through conversations with leaders, job-site visits, HPT and department meetings, and other appropriate methods.
  • Partner with leadership to set and regularly revisit learning priorities, and maintain a flexible development roadmap that balances immediate needs with long-term growth.
  • Recognize when a performance issue calls for a non-training solution and work with the right partners to address it.
Learning Design and Delivery
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of practical, engaging learning experiences, in person and virtually, grounded in adult learning principles.
  • Choose the delivery methods and formats that best fit the audience, the content, and the desired outcome.
  • Draw on real Blum projects, leader insights, and lessons learned to make learning relevant to employees' day-to-day work.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts, internal partners, and external resources to build and maintain training content and resources.
Professional Skills Development
  • Partner with leaders to identify and prioritize professional skills needs such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving, accountability, and leadership.
  • Create opportunities for employees to learn from Blum leaders, share experiences, and apply what they learn on the job.
Technical and Systems Training
  • Partner with IT, Business Analysis, operational leaders, and subject-matter experts to identify technical, systems, and process training needs.
  • Develop and coordinate training that supports technology adoption, system changes, and consistent execution of business processes.
  • Support accessible training resources, job aids, and knowledge-sharing tools so employees can find what they need when they need it.
Onboarding
  • Collaborate with People Strategies, IT, and hiring managers to strengthen the onboarding experience, including Dipped in Blue and role-specific development paths.
  • Improve the consistency and effectiveness of onboarding across roles and regions so new hires become productive faster.
High Performing Teams (HPT)
  • Support HPT facilitation and related activities across regions.
  • Use insights from HPT and other team discussions to identify development priorities and recommend solutions that strengthen team effectiveness.
Measuring Impact and Continuous Improvement
  • Work with leaders to define what success looks like for priority initiatives.
  • Evaluate learning effectiveness, including participant feedback, skill gains, and how well employees apply what they learned, and, where appropriate, contribution to business results.
  • Share progress and impact with leadership and use findings to continuously improve programs and approaches.
Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, human resources, business, construction management, or a related field preferred, plus five or more years in training, learning and development, or organizational development with demonstrated adult-learning facilitation.
  • Construction or project-based industry experience strongly preferred; credibility with superintendents and project managers is essential.
  • Proven ability to assess performance needs and translate them into effective learning solutions; skilled facilitator of discussion-based learning, in person and virtually.
  • Strong consultative and relationship-building skills; able to manage multiple priorities and programs at once. Experience creating multimedia or video-based learning content is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365. Working knowledge of Procore and Outbuild strongly preferred, or the ability to learn them quickly; Egnyte or ADP a plus.
